KOGART House

The Kovács Gábor Art Foundation acquired the painter’s artistic estate in the spring of 2009. As the first results of the cataloguing effort, we now present the pastels and aquarelles.

The sketches, drafts and studies for paintings, just as the independent graphics, will not only help us to understand Tibor Csernus’s creative method better, but will also highlight the role and significance of the model.

The exhibition also offers an insight into the different phases of cataloguing – such as condition assessment, conservation, inventorying, analysis of the oeuvre –, the process whereby an estate becomes part of a collection. As we present the diverse stages, we hope not only to describe the background work of professionals, but to position, as well as to re-evaluate, the given oeuvre. Rather than making declarations and assertions, we want to ask questions and offer suggestions, and thus to outline a frame of reference. We hope this will reveal more of the internal logic of Tibor Csernus’s art, well as its points of connection.
