KOGART Exhibitions Tihany
Tihany

Photography and painting, two different art categories, didn’t seem to have any intersection of both during the first half of 20th century. Each of them was seeking for its own transformation and development in their pursuits of modernization. As a rising urban space, modern city became a conjunction of both: modern city pushed the development of modern photography and modern painting while the urban appearance and urban life inspired the artists.

Around 1930’s, two young artists began their active careers: the space of the creation time of the artworks of this exhibition, the paintings of Tan Huamu and the photos of Jin Shisheng are from 1920s to 1960s. During the same period, the Janus - Jin Shisheng - and the Missing - Tan Huamu - took down people, life and society by their own method of art simultaneously. The photos and paintings, which didn’t seem associated with each other, co-contributed a social landscape and art style during a certain period in history.
